Swedish term or phrase: ärende vs tvistemål
Hi - I am trying to verify ärende in this particular instance, I normally would just translate this as case or matter, but in this sentence it seems it may be "court case", etc. Thanks for your help.

I 3 kap.

matter - civil case/proceedings
Explanation:
ärende is a "matter"-

and a "tvistemål" is a civil case (or civil proceedings, depending on where the term is used).

The difference bettween a "matter" and is "civil case" another matter.

ärende
court case

Explanation:
Checking the law in question, "lagen om patent- och marknadsdomstolar", it appears that "ärenden" in that text refers to "ärenden i Patent- och marknadsdomstolen och Patent- och marknadsöverdomstolen":

See e.g. chapter 1, paragraph 1 in the law:

So, yes, you seem to be right that "ärende" here refers to court cases.
