Swedish term or phrase: kryss
Detta handlar om en forskningsrapport om bildjournalistik skriven av journalister för (skulle jag tro) andra journalister. Här används ordet "kryss" som benämning på en plats på framsidan av en tidning och eftersom jag inte är bekant med denna användning av detta ord hoppas jag på att det finns någon här som är det (samt vad motsvarigheten skulle vara på engelska).

Ett par exempel:

"...växlar mellan en redigering med toppnyheten i vänsterkrysset och en stor, högerställd bild i högerkrysset..."

"...kontrast mellan den dominerande bilden och toppnyhetens rubrik i vänsterkrysset..."

Boring as it might sound, högerkrysset and vänsterkrysset should probably just be translated as top right corner and top left corner in this case.

Based on a little bit of googling, I get the impression the location near a top corner on either side of the frontpage header tends to be called "earlug" in some advertising contexts.

However, your context seems to be more general than just advertising. In your context the term has to with the general layout of the page, referring to positions that can be occupied by any type of content, not necessarily an ad.
