Detta kommer ifrån en forskningsrapport om bildjournalistik. Ordet, som verkar vanligt inom svensk journalistjargong, förekommer på en hel del ställen och innebär något med syfte att få läsaren att läsa vidare:

"...på så sätt kan bilderna ses som puffar på en marknad där de bägge morgontidningarna konkurrerar om läsarna."

It’s a prime spot, we could charge a premium.” The 'thing’ to which he referred was the coloured strip that runs under or over the masthead and is variously called the blurb, puff panel, skybox promo-panel, boost or teaser. Remarkably, in the UK, just about every newspaper uses one.
