We pretty much agreed earlier that the pompous ... approach is indeed excessive and as you say, overkill. The issue for Richard has apparently boiled down to whether to translate the Swe pompous overkill to provide a sense of the original document he's working on, or for him to write plainly as we would prefer, and as you suggest. As for the grammar, I might even agree there, but the references for the phrase as such are there. I simply suggested the overkill route as an actual possibility, if that works in the context.

I maintain my "clearly" for a number of reasons, not the least because it modifies the verb "with desired clarity" (which would be my second choice). I object strongly to the first suggestion, the one with the most approvals. It is an overkill and grammatically wrong. I also object to the last suggestion. "the desired level of clarity".... another overkill.

Personally, I hate it when someone uses the Swe phrase here -- pompous, exaggerated and often arrogant. But if this is a court ruling ... judges can be like that.

Could we all please be civil to one another in our comments and answers? I'm getting increasingly p*ssed off with the attitudes I see on KudoZ to the extent that it really no longer motivates me to use it.

We're all doing the same job, we all know what it's like and the stresses we face, so let's just be nice to one another. For many of us working from home, KudoZ might be the only human contact we have, so let's be civil! :-)

I do appreciate every answer that people suggest, even if incorrect, as someone has taken time out of their day to help me for free. And I can overlook spelling mistakes on Kudoz (certainly not in my work or the work of others) when it is clear what is meant.

PLEASE, let's keep KudoZ friendly.

"As clear as can be" - that's a nice phrase which I had forgotten! Unfortunately this is quite a formal text, so I might have to be a bit more literal as you say.

"Med all önskvärd tydlighet" is the idiomatic phrase that the writer of the source text is, most likely, grasping for.

"Det framgår, med all önskvärd tydlighet, att det inte finns någon sådan princip i svensk rätt." would be the correct phrase.
