Can anyone explain the expression in the second sentence please which includes the word "grynnor"

Handelstidningens börskommentator CR Pokorny publicerade en ambitiös genomgång av de svenska industriföretagen som visade hur de tidigare nödlidande bruksföretagen nu var jämntjocka av vinster och soliditet. Vattenståndet var så högt att knappt några grynnor syntes längre.

So we have

The water level was so high that no rocks were visible longer

Does a rock = poorly performing company in this context?

Then maybe something like "dead horse"?

or have I got it all wrong?
