research-related Explanation: This is my first instinct whenever I see this (or words ending in "-nära"). It's similar in a way to words ending in "-teknisk" where the "technical" bit is added on (so I was told by Swedes) to show equal respect to all sorts of jobs and subjects rather than making it sound as though (e.g.) a refuse collector's job meant less than that of a lab technician, i.e. it's covering various possibilities. Wonder what sorts of comment I'll get on this! |
