Swedish term or phrase: tacksamhedsskuld++
På så sät finge jag dels en tafla af Eder hand under Eder senaste period, hvilket länge varit min önskan, dels porträtet af den man, till hvilken jag står i större tacksamhedsskuld, än till någon annan människa.

It's the whole phrase I need translating, please. I am translating a Norwegian article with a Swedish quotation in it, and do not speak Swedish! It's part of a letter from the banker Thiel to the artist Munch, saying how much Thiel would like Munch to paint Nietzsche.

English translation:owe a debt of gratitude
Explanation:
"In that way, I (shall) receive(d) not only a painting by your hand during (from) your latest period, which has long been my wish, but also the portrait of the man, to whom I owe a larger debt of gratitude than to any other person."

Hope this helps, although my old-fashioned Swedish (and English) is a bit rusty ;)

Asker: Sounds good to me. I can do simple Swedish, but could never have got to the bottom of that sentence. And as you say, the period stuff is harder than we think! Thanks very much.

indebted to

Explanation:

A humble attempt from a non-English speaker:
That way, I would on one hand get a picture made by you during your latest period, which I have desired for a long time, and on the other hand a portrait of the man to whom I am more indebted than to any other human being.
