Julien avait tellement peur (horreur) qu'il s'est mis à trembler à la seule pensée que...../tout à coup (à l'improviste)...

Je ne suis pas d'accord avec "à brûle-pourpoint" car c'est une expression très forte dans ce cas là.

pourpoint = (Au moyen Age) - Partie du vêtement d'homme qui couvrait le torse jusqu'au dessous de la ceinture (=justaucorps).
En chausses et en pourpoint.

à brûle pourpoint = a quemarropa

a boca de jarro = tout à coup/à l'improviste
