This should be easy but I can't find the term in English.

Escalerilla es originalmente un término de encuadernación. Para realizar una obra completa (folleto, libro, publicación periódica, etc.), las diversas partes (hojas o pliegos unidos, secciones) deben reunirse en el orden correcto. Esto se consigue colocando unas marcas de alzado a modo de escalerilla (en el caso de los libros, normalmente en el lomo del bloque del libro) siguiendo una disposición escalonada de arriba abajo.

Escalerilla es originalmente un término de encuadernación. Para hacer un trabajo completo (folleto, libro, publicación, etc.), las diversas partes (hojas o pliegos unidos, secciones) tienen que ponerse en el orden correcto. Ello se consigue colocando unas marcas de alzado a modo de escalerilla (en el caso de los libros, normalmente en el lomo del bloque del libro) siguiendo una disposición escalonada de arriba abajo.
Los pasaportes llevan este tipo de marca en forma de elemento fluorescente o visible, para que sea más fácil descubrir si se ha cambiado alguna página. La combinación de escalerilla y número de página a menudo se denomina numeración flotante.
