To all: Many times the askers are chastised for asking... but that is what the Kudoz is for...for asking and to get responses. In return, what one gets are points. Ok, consider also that one is supposed to answer in accordance to the question... in this case the question was --tipo--- and if that was a wrong question, then it should be reformulated. It is the duty of the translator to deliver a good translation and there are always sources for overcoming doubts, but consider that the question should be submitted correctly.

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. As I could clearly sense with my translator's spidey senses, tipo cannot be directly translated as rate here. After doing more research and reaching out to other colleagues directly, it has become clear that an appropriate translation for the sentence would be "In money markets, interest accrues based on a 360-day year." I used the Treasurer's Wiki to help understand this concept. http://wiki.treasurers.org/wiki/Day_count_conventions

La pregunta más estúpida es la que no se hace...and context is everything. Which is why I asked for help because I am still learning about finance and it is a complex field and words have many, many meanings so again, thanks for your help. If anyone out there would like to DM me with help with the rest of the sentence I would really be thankful. I would rather make a fool of myself in public than send in something to my client that is just wrong.

Thanks Phil and of course I do know tipo as rate (as in tipo de cambio). I am still not clear on the meaning of this sentence in spite of your help. But thanks anyway.
