Spanish term or phrase: solicitud
Hi,

I would really appreciate your advice on how I should translate "solicitud" in the following sentences. It's the privacy policy for a website and its talking about how it collects personal data and for what purposes.

"...datos a los que X acceda como consecuencia de su navegación, de la consulta, SOLICITUD, contratación de cualquier servicio-producto, o de cualquier transacción..."

"los datos [serán tratados para poder] tramitar encargos, SOLICITUDES o cualquier tipo de petición..."

My confusion stems from the fact that the website also has a privacy policy related to the submission of CVs, which makes me wonder whether "solicitud" refers to a request or an application in this context. If it does simply mean "request" I don't know how I should distinguish between "solicitud" and "petición" in the second sentence, as I feel "petición" should also be translated as request.

Thank you and sorry for the length of this!

Explanation:
I think "solicitud" sounds like it is likely to be "request". You could translate "petition" as "requirement".

There are quite a few examples online of "any request or requirement" in the context of terms and conditions.

query

Explanation:

Definition of "query" in software engineering:
Define query language, Software Engineering -...
www.expertsmind.com/questions/define-query-language...
... A query is a statement requesting the retrieval of information.

Better yet: solicitudes = queries for information retrieval. In the second sentence fragment, solicitudes = queries for information retrieval, or inquiries.
It is better to use "request for information" for consulta, and "request" for petición, in fact.
Thus the two sentence fragments should read as follows:
(1) "data which X accesses as a result of his/her browsing, request for information, query, contracting for a product or service, or any [other type of] transaction."
(2) "the data will be processed for handling orders, queries for information retrieval, inquiries, or any type of request"

Correction:
(1) "data which X accesses as a result of his/her browsing, request for information, query for information retrieval, contracting for a product or service, or any [other type of] transaction."
(2) "the data will be processed for handling orders, queries for information retrieval, inquiries, or any type of request [in general]"

disagree  neilmac: In Spain at least, query = "consulta". And this is a PRO query.

-> Are you telling me that, in Spanish software engineering, "solicitud" does NOT mean "query for information retrieval"? Very interesting.
