Spanish term or phrase: reporte
This does not appear to refer to "report"---
A Mexican curator describing the hesitancy of a biennial to produce an extremely ambitious project:

…En retrospectiva, es necesario reconocer que la precaución de Lama era un reporte con ciertas bases acerca de las limitaciones económicas y organizativas del evento. Sin embargo, ese escepticismo tendría, a la distancia, el efecto de convencer aún más al artista y al curador de la urgencia de llevarlo a cabo.

…In retrospect, Lama’s hesitance did reflect the event’s economic and organizational limitations.

Explanation:
I think this is the idea, though your translation is better than trying tease out some meaning from "reporte".

report/news report

Explanation:
I’m not sure reporte isn’t report/news report... Could something along these lines be one interpretation?

“In retrospect, it’s important to recognise that Lama’s reservations came from a report/news report that made some valid points about the event’s economic and organisational limitations.”

... or alternatively, could it be rumour (2. Chisme)?:
“reporte
1. s. m. PERIODISMO Noticia, informe sobre un acontecimiento.
2. Chisme, noticia que se difunde sin saber su certeza y para desacreditar a una persona.”
https://es.thefreedictionary.com/reporte

“1. m. Noticia, informe.
2. m. chisme (‖ noticia que pretende indisponer).”
https://dle.rae.es/reporte

Ultimately, I read it as a piece of information that Lama accessed/was given in whatever form that had, at least, some grains of truth.

agree  philgoddard: I'm not totally sure about this, but yours is the best-referenced answer, and I can't find any other meanings for "reporte" that fit the context. You could say "rumors with some basis in fact".

  -> Many thanks, Phil.

agree  Helena Chavarria: This could be right if we read it as 'la precaución de Lama venía de/era debido a un reporte...'

  -> Gracias mil, Helena.
