time transects or changes in a line transect Explanation: They provide a good way of being able to clearly visualize the changes taking place along the line of a transect -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2019-04-04 04:09:50 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Line transects are used when you wish to illustrate a particular gradient or linear pattern along which communities of plants and, or animals change Reference: http://www.countrysideinfo.co.uk/wetland_survey/line.htm |

by successional transects Explanation: We're more familiar with spatial transects, meant to provide a snapshot of the distribution of something, typically a plant or animal species, over space, at a given time. However, sometimes we're interested in how things change over time - e.g., how the distribution of plant species evolves as a certain area becomes urbanized. The series of snapshots of the same area over time constitute a successional transect. There is a brief discussion here, about 3/4 of the way down the page: https://transect.org/rural_img.html There are several images of successional transects here: https://www.bing.com/images/search?q=+"successional transect...
