Spanish to English translations [PRO] Tech/Engineering - Energy / Power Generation / Substation components
Spanish term or phrase:pendolones
Contract about building a substation in Spain to feed power from solar farms into the grid. "Pendolones" are mentioned just once, in this context: Se define como “Punto Frontera” entre las instalaciones de XXX y las de ZZZ al punto de engrape al pórtico proyectado ubicado dentro de la subestación, así como las piezas de conexión de los pendolones de bajada de línea al seccionador. It's not "king post", and I don't believe a "pendolón" here is the same as in an electrical railway. Any informed suggestions are greatly appreciated. Even a picture would help.
Thank you to everybody who contributed their thoughts and research on this. I am still unsure which is the right answer, though, so I'm closing it without awarding points.
There is this text, from https://www.juntadeandalucia.es/export/drupaljda/tramite_inf... Los aisladores de apoyo irán montados en las vigas soporte del embarrado transversal/longitudinal a una altura de 6,09 m (bajo), soportando los pendolones que cuelgan del mismo hacia las bornas de los seccionadores, o transformadores de medida y protección.
@Taña I am beginning to think your initial suggestion of "pole" is correct. Please take a look at this article: https://www. solarlandlease.com/solar-farm-connect-grid
@ Taña Yes, that's the article. Further down it states: "YCAB Solar makes dozens of different styles of hangers to hoist solar cables above the ground. The cable size determines which hanger style to use, and Allen said there is no weight limit for the hangers. Hangers easily hook into place and support the solar cables every ..... " Guess we are still not sure. Bless u.
I assume that this is the article here (picture included): https://www.solarpowerworldonline.com/2016/03/alternatives-t... (Alayna: there is a picture here, but I am still not 100% certain we are talking the same thing). "CAB Solar, whose main division CAB Products (The Cambria County Association for the Blind and Handicapped) has manufactured hooks and hangers commonly used to hold aerial cables or traffic signals over intersections, manufactures solar hangers for use along a messenger wire or guy strand strung between piers/supports spaced generally 15 to 20 ft apart."
Firstly, to say hope all is well with your family and that you continue to stay safe in these very trying times. Secondly, back to your remarks, IMO, it matters nought whether the entry you also saw is 7 years or more. My own search revealed very limited information on the word "pendolón" to begin with; I found a reference in Spanish from Venezuela for one, but that did not help in terms of translation (it was a thesis); As far as the references are concerned, I extracted those from the previous glossary entry as info is so limited. So, in short, there is very little info on the term, as far as I can see, so I provided you with info I could find. Regards.
Hi, Taña and Manuel. Thanks for your contributions. You know, I saw that glossary entry, but since it was from 7 years ago, I was hoping maybe there was some further documentation, perhaps with some context in English. I get a 404 error for the Nashua Telegraph reference, but the Varamont reference has photographs that appear to show poles/tubes running down to what I interpret as the newly installed coil. So, that helps. Thanks again.
Explanation: I.e. something from which things hang. My notoriously dodgy Beigbder-Atienza Technical dictionary gives several suggestions: Pendolón: hangar / hanging tie/ king-piece / crown post / kingpost / joggle post Pendolón (arquitectura): truss post Pendolón (cerchas): antisag bar / suspension rod / broach-post / pointal Pendolón (cerchas de madera): joggle-piece

NB: That first "hangar" is a typo, I meant "hanger". It's a paper dictionary, so I couldn't copy and paste the definitions...
