Se me ha solicitado la traducción de un diploma perteneciente a un egresado de esta universidad peruana. Según el diploma el rector confiere el grado de "Bachiller en ciencias con mención ingeniería mecánica".

Quisiera entender más claramente cuál es el uso que hace esta universidad (o tal vez es un uso común en todas las universidades peruanas) del término "Bachiller" en este contexto. Sabría decirme alguno de ustedes cuales son los requisitos y condiciones de admisión que piden las universidades en perú a los que deseen ingresar con el fin de cursar un programa de Bachillerato en general o el Bachillerato en ciencias?

Cuántos años de escolaridad debe tener cualquier candidato que aspire a ingresar a cualquiera de los programas de bachillerato?

Cuántos años dura un programa de Bachillerato a nivel universitario o especificamente en la Pontificia Universidad Católica del Perú (PUCP)?

El término "bachiller"es confuso porque en otros países de América latina el término "bachillerato" designa los cinco (o a veces seis) años de estudio a nivel de escuela secundaria y es un lapso PREVIO al ingreso a la universidad. Asimismo, el término "Bachiller" se usa para calificar al egresado de la escuela secundaria y este grado es requisito básico para ingresar al nivel universitario.

agree  Marcelo González: As the asker points out, it's odd, but the text would seem to refer to a university degree, and not a graduate-level one, so a B.S. in this context makes sense. Interestingly enough, in Puerto Rico (as one might expect) bachillerato has this meaning, too.
