Spanish term or phrase: media-humana
This is from a critical text on the (mis) use of photography in anthropology

Así, las fotos de indios y criminales buscaban plasmar la imagen de un individuo, a la vez que establecían un “promedio” o “media-humana”, como expresa un término de la época.

human median? human measure? The use of quotation marks suggest that it was a term used at the time, but I was not able to find anything on the web

Thanks

English translation:composite human
Explanation:
This presents a challenge, because I would have said "average" already for "promedio." So, I am hoping this will solve that problem.

disagree  Judith Armele: Media means medios de comunicación and your examples show that.//but in Spanish media has nothing to do with 'medios de comunicación'! And how could it say promedio O media-humana if the meaning was that? I think you are missing the point here.

-> that was my whole point, since this is about the way media is depicting individuals in photos and in a way by doing so removing their individuality

Human median

Explanation:
I would use your suggestion, human median, if you want to maintain both names: promedio=average and media-humana=human media. If not you can use only average.

half-human

Explanation:
In 1924, the fossilized skull of a child, half-ape, half-human
cannibalistic half-human, it is an image well worth examining
medio/a can mean half, so this may be the term half-human, which was popularly used in that time period
