Creo que tambien se podria traducir como "Los tiempos dificiles". Asi de lo simple.

El hombre fuerte pasó a ser el sargento Batista, figura clave de un período turbulento, caracterizado por la corrupción, el gansterismo y una encarnizada represión y persecución política. La huelga general de los maestros de marzo de 1935 fue reprimida brutalmente por las tropas de Batista. La lucha popular se acrecentó. Ocho sucesivos gobiernos se alternaron a la sombra del poder militar. El 14 de julio de 1940, el ya coronel Fulgencio Batista fue "electo" presidente de Cuba por un período que duró hasta el año 44. Posteriormente, el 12 de marzo de 1952, Batista tomó la Fortaleza de La Cabaña y regresó al gobierno.
