Russian term or phrase: Подыскать на стороне
Employers are being surveyed about the quality of the uni graduates that they are hiring. If the person is unsatisfactory, they are given various options of what they would do, one of which is:

Подыскать на стороне работника или подходящего выпускника

Would it be "look elsewhere"? I can't confirm.

hire an outside candidate/ a candidate from outside the company
Explanation:
That would be my understanding of the Russian phrase.

I think it is a choice of hiring a working employee from outside the company or a suitable graduate.

Thanks to all. This fone its best in the sentence, although rns's solution provided me what I needed: confirmation that my basic understanding was correct. Both, and my original, would be fine if the sentence were tweaked appropriately.
