Actually, in retrospect, I think heterogeneous might indeed be the best as well, despite the fact that I asked for something else (this was largely because the author of the text I'm translating also used "неоднородный" and similar terms in the preceding sentences, and there are only so many "heterogeneouses" that I can use in a row :-) The only other one that might work here is "multifaceted" since it is the closest term that maintains similar breadth of meaning/ambiguity (some of the others like "multiethnic" are definitely too narrow). But even so, calling a country "multifaceted" is also a bit of a mix of terms.
Anyhow, please go ahead and post it and vote on heterogeneous--I've kept the voting open, and I do think it works well. Apologies for keeping it out in the first place, and thanks for your suggestions! |
