Spiny lobsters were intensively fished by netting and diving in the late 1960s and early 1970s leading to local extinctions in south-west Britain in particular. First signs of recovery did not occur until 2014 when large numbers of recently settled individuals were seen in locations from where they had been absent for over 40 years. A similar recruitment was observed at the same time in Brittany.
