Here is the paragraph whence the tricky phrase comes:

Так, совместная встречаемость в индустрии зубчатых, выемчатых, усеченных ретушью изделий и орудий высокой формы указывает на зубчатый вариант мустье.

Tools of high form? I'm really quite stuck with this one.

Asker: Thanks Irene. The English on that site is rather poor so I don't think that the translator's choice of "high form" is particularly reliable. In fact, it reads almost like a machine-based translation. The French you've pointed to will be helpful. Unfortunately, I left my FR>EN archaeology dico up in my office in the attic, and the ladder mechanism broke just before the new year and I can't get up there without help. It would happen right before my deadline, right?

Explanation:
Take my highest confidence with a bit of salt though, taking into account raw machine translation I extrapolated myself FAR-FAR away from the attempt to understand particulars but rather to look at the "ground structure" and my guts are telling me "advanced tools" should fit whatever the topic could be...

I did a bit more research and it looks like this is all about arts/crafts in "stone ages", thus "advanced tools" fits perfectly, caveman started using them at that time - we've seen quite an advancement since then :-)

The Russian wording is absurd. Form, let alone shape, cannot be 'high', unless - by a stretch of imagination - it means 'sophisticated' as in, say, 'high[-tech]', but the context, speaking as it does about concrete tools in terms of their shape/profile/contour, precludes the latter interpretation. The translation I propose is based on the context only.

P.S. I'm aware of the term 'высокой формы' in archeology, but doubt that it applies in this case. However, I cannot exclude it - hence my confidence rating.
