agree  David Knowles: I think this may be better than Citizenship. Can't you be born and live in Russia of Ukrainian parents and have Ukrainian nationality without being a citizen of Ukraine? I'm not an expert, so correct me if I'm wrong!
3 hrs
-> Thanks, David, but nationality here means citizenship, not ethnic origin. Term "Nationality" is often used in visa applications to many countries and immigration cards when u entry other countries, if required. "Citizenship" is also used for this purpose

agree  Simon Geoghegan: You're absolutely right. "Ukrainian" and not "Ukraine". Except it's spelled "Ukrainian".

-> Thank you, Simon! Regarding your remark, it's a misprint.

neutral  Vadim Khazin: This may be an alternative for "Ukraine" but only because Ukraine has a corresponding adjective. However, if the country of citizenship is, say, USA, UAR, or the defunct GDR, there are no exact adjectives, so I'd prefer put the country of citizenship.

@Andrei. Very conflicting. In Soviet times, they had национальность (most probably it meant Nationality), and I suppose there were hundreds of nationalities across USSR including Tatars, Bashkirs, Komis, Osetians, Mardovians..... let alone Ukrainians, Russians, Uzbeks. So, the remnants of Soviet times are going to hang for a long time to come.
Гражданство should definitely be Citizenship. So, why they write Nationality. Though British passport also has like this:
"Nationality: British Citizen"

It is 'Nationality" in US passports also. In case of Ex-Soviet states, it is taken differently. Even today, if you ask a Bashkir his nationality, he will say Bashkir and when you ask him about his citizenship, he is bound to say citizen of Russian Federation. So, please let's all take this issue to politicians and translate as per our mood. No difference in Nationality or Citizenship. Our job is to make things understandable and confuse the matters....

neutral  Vlasta Shevchenko: to andrei. Nationality is translated into Russian as "Гражданство", not "Национальность". Национальность is translated as ethnic origin. Right, it causes problem when people answer to this question in visa application. But this is official way to write it

Reference: Nationality

Reference information:
Под словом NATIONALITY на Западе понимают "гражданство". При прилете в Лондон в самолете дают опросник, в котором есть пункт: "nationality", и мы пишем РФ. В Российском загранпаспорте тоже написано "Гражданство/Nationality".
Но в UK несколько видов "nationality": British citizenship;British overseas citizenship;British overseas territories citizenship;British national (overseas);British protected person; and British subject.
В инструкции на заявление на Британский паспорт постоянно употребляют "nationality" в значении "гражданство". https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachm...
