Law/Patents - Real Estate / Rental agreement
Portuguese term or phrase: Contrato reduzido
The full sentence is as follows:

Não sendo possível a sanação prevista nos termos do número anterior, considera-se o contrato reduzido à parte não afectada

I'm not clear on the meaning of 'contrato reduzido' here. The item above is describing how to cure an invalidity or impossibility in the contract, so it's saying if this is not possible, the contract must be... reduced? I'm not sure of the meaning of this phrase.

This is Portuguese for Portugal, in case that makes any difference :)

it shall be deemed to be limited
Explanation:
Translation of source text:
Where it is not possible to remedy the contract in accordance with the provisions of the preceding paragraph, it shall be deemed to be limited to the unaffected part thereof.

The context appears to be a contractual clause which deals with the eventuality that clauses of the contract are held to be invalid, null and void or unenforceable.

The normal remedy is that the parties agree to replace the defective clause with another valid clause which has a similar effect to the defective clause. Where this is not possible the defective clause is deemed to be deleted so that the contract is reduced to its remaining non-defective clauses.
