Portuguese is not a native language to Brazil, Angola, Mozambique, Cabo Verde, etc. It's their national language. Their nationals are generally native speakers of Portuguese, but Portuguese is Portugal's native language, only! There is a big difference between a national language and a native language. A language is native only to the country where it (the language, not the speakers) was "born".

neutral  R. Alex Jenkins: I still think that 'Native' is the correct translation to Ivaneide's question. Although I was born in Wales (Pais de Gales), my 'native' language is English because that is the widely spoken language in the region - 'technically' incorrect, but true.
