A ciclagem de nutrientes é de suma importância para a manutenção da vida
dentro dos ecossistemas. São processos inter-relacionados em que os elementos
químicos, inclusive todos os elementos essenciais à vida, são utilizados em
sucessivos períodos de fixação de energia, circulando na biosfera em vias
características, do ambiente aos organismos e desses novamente ao ambiente. Como
essas vias são mais ou menos circulares, são chamadas de ciclos biogeoquímicos
(ODUM, 2013).
Primeiramente, os processos de INTEMPERISMO sobre a rocha liberam
nutrientes da litosfera para a pedosfera. Esses nutrientes são absorvidos pelas plantas
e incorporados aos compostos orgânicos (SILVA & MENDONÇA, 2007). E por
meio da fotossíntese, assimila o gás carbônico atmosférico o reduzindo a carboidrato,
produzindo biomassa, assim como armazena os nutrientes do solo na sua biomassa
(COLLINS & KUEHL, 2001). E
