I'd translate the segment "Norwegian doctors of both genders, and of majority and of majority and minority background, primarily come from a middle class background, and exercise a profession with male-dominated and prestigious connotiations". of both Norwegian and more ethnically diverse backgrounds Explanation: I agree with the other contributors that the word itself leaves behind a bad taste in terms of ethnocentricity. To get around this, one way would be to try to unload the majority/minority distinction that is inherent in the word itself, while still maintaining the main idea of the sentence which could be interpreted to be diversity. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day10 hrs (2009-06-01 19:21:35 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- Dropping the word "ethnically" from my answer would be a way to make the sentence even less charged: "of both Norwegian and more diverse backgrounds" |
