life as a teacher/teaching achievements Explanation: "Her life as a teacher "/ "Her teaching achievements"It would help with more context - does the text refer to one particular exhibit/photo, for example? Or to the exhibition as a whole? |

teaching career Explanation: A more precise transation would be 'her work and accomplishments as a teacher', where -gjerning is elevated from just a job to something of a calling which I'm sure many teachers feel. Other professions where -gjerning is common, include doctors and priests (legegjerning, prestegjerning). In practical, day-to-day terms, though, we are referring to her teaching career - not the quality of her teaching. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 9 hrs (2006-12-13 08:44:28 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- The easiest and simplest solution might be the best here - 'Her work as a teacher'. We don't know for sure that the person would use the term 'lærergjerning', as if she was responding to some special calling. We also know little of her achievements and acomplishments, which are by no means given. |
