Thank you all for your input. Based on your entries and discussion, I went for "provide" as it fitted the more 'chatty' style of the text well, and implied that information could be given in writing or verbally, but also that it is both given when asked for in the "crisis centre", but also handed out to those who need it.

Phrasal verbs are something I will always find very tricky, so it's good to have your support here!

When I make my final read-through of the text, I will decide which of your options I think fits the context best, as it is rather "chatty" in its style.

I understand your confusion, Richard. In your context I think it means "to make sure everybody gets the relevant information". "Få ut" in Norwegian is also used when you want to "retrieve" information in a context where this is not that simple. And, Leif, I see the distinction too.

Distribute information is grammatically correct and is used. My reference actually says information dissemination is to distribute information, but also says to 'disseminate information'.

At first "distribute" sounded all right to me. But when I searched on Google for them in a context relevant to this one here, I couldn't find any. I found "disseminate"+"information" a lot. When looking up "information" in my BBI=Dictionary of word combinations, I found these verbs to be relevant: to disseminate, furnish, give, offer, provide. This doesn't mean that "distribute" cannot be used together with "information".

I do understand and acknowledge what Vedis and eodd says. If the Norwegian phrase was 'gi informasjon' I would certainly agree.

However, I see a distinction here. In this case, 'få ut' implies a sort of organized activity, utilising diverse channels to press, media, authorities, etc. to make sure correct information is available for all who might require it.

Informing employees, answering questions from media etc. would certainly fall under 'provide information', but in this case I would prefer 'distribute'.

I prefer "provide" to "distribute" here. I think distribute sounds a little stilted here.
