a kink proof Explanation: Although I'm not sure either キンク逃げ is a phenomenon or a measure, that' s a kink proof should it is a preventative measure. |

pulled-through kink Explanation: I believe this phrase refers to a kink that is formed when a loop is pulled through, instead of unwinding it the proper way. When uncoiling wire ropes from a reel, the correct method is to place the reel/drum on a stand so that the entire reel can turn freely. That way, when they pull the rope off the reel, the twist that is inherent to the wire rope can unwind by itself. If the reel is put on the ground on its side where it cannot move, and we uncoil the rope from it, the twist in the rope itself will cause loops to form. That is not an immediate problem, because those loops can be undone by carefully uncrossing the rope and opening them up, but if instead, the rope is pulled or loaded while the loop is present, the load will "pull through" the loop and cause a permanent kink. Once a kink is set, it is a permanent damage that cannot be undone. The shape, the look of the kink will depend on the direction of the lay (in which direction the wire rope strands are twisted together) relative to the direction of the loop that formed on the rope. (lay=より) I think this directional difference is what the Japanese text refers to as プラス or マイナス in the case of キンク逃げ. http://navyaviation.tpub.com/14315/Figure-1-25-Cable-Damage-... " Of particular importance is the detection of a cable in which a kink has been pulled through in order to straighten the cable. The resultant deformation is known as a bird cage. See figure 1-25. In such a case, the sling should be discarded. ... Figure 1-25.--Cable damage resulting from a pulled-through kink." In this PDF there is a good drawing showing what a プラスキンク and a マイナスキンク looks like: https://www.rental.co.jp/oyakudachi/mini_chishiki/01-14b.pdf The pictures in this pdf show what is called a "tight kink" vs. an "open kink": http://www.mhi.org/downloads/industrygroups/osha/FactSheet_0... Comparing the images in these two PDFs, I think プラスキンク is referred to as an open kink, and マイナスキンク is called a tight kink. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 11 hrs (2018-11-23 21:27:21 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- So, in reference to your statement of "I guess it is mentioning the phenomenon in which a kink in a wire rope is stretched or dispersed when tension is applied to the rope, but I am not completely sure." - no, the kink does not disappear when the wire rope is stretched, in fact the stretching is what permanently sets the kink. The kink may be less prominent if viewed from a distance, because the "loop" shape is pulled out, but a close inspection of the wire rope will show the kink and the damage to the strands of the rope. So, キンク逃げ is a bad thing, something that should be avoided. (Wire rope) kink: Wire rope being twisted into a loop. Application of a load will result in a tight or an open pulled-through kink. |
