Japanese term or phrase:
I am running into a problem because I do not know how to translate 字 in a character profile. This term seems to occur before an alternative name for a character is given. I know that many of the characters in this series have more than one name (odd, that), so I am wondering if this is not just a clever way of saying "aka".

Here, for the sake of context, is the way in which the term in question appears (along with my partial translation).

名前 郭嘉 Name: Guo Jia
    字・奉孝 Fengxiao
Cary Strunk
Japan
English translation:Style
Explanation:
"Nickname" is a bit too casual for this. It's a "style", which can actually be a self-given name. You can read more details here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chinese_style_name

It looks like the game is based on Chinese history, so I'd recommend reflecting this in your translation. In fact, if you look up Guo Jia on Wikipedia, you'll see the info box lists his various names, including his style:
Names
Simplified Chinese 郭嘉
Traditional Chinese 郭嘉
Pinyin Guō Jiā
Wade-Giles Kuo Chia
Style name Fengxiao (奉孝)
Posthumous name Marquis Zhen (贞侯)
