胸骨核 sternum Explanation: Kyoukotsukaku- 'kyoukotsu' is the sternum, while 'kaku' in this case refers to the center, or core of something (i.e,where the ribs connect to the breastbone). I think the best translation would simply be 'sternum'. I didn't use web references for this, only dictionaries; but they weren't medical dictionaries. |

sternal ossification center Explanation: "kyokotsu" is sternum and "kokkaku" is ossification center, the author probably decided that they could delete one of the "kotsu"s Fujitsu's ATLAS electronic medical dictionary |
