population groups Explanation: I need more context to be sure. Is this from the Tohoku University Graduate School of Life Sciences? If so, the exact phrase would describe the schools's wide range of research from the micro (molecular biology) to the macro (population groups and ecosystem scale). In the case my assumption is correct, then the discussion will be regarding herds, colonies, and such. Thus being a population group, or an entire ecosystem. Reading their outline for the program's emphasis, they describe their life sciences research from the molecular, cellular, to organism and then inter-organism interactions.
