I assume that this is a branch of anthropology, but can't find a good English term that matches the definition I found in Japanese. It doesn't seem like it's cultural anthropology, but that discipline seems close. Here's the definition of 可能人類学 that I found:

人間が環境を作り、環境が人間を作り替える共進化的な循環のなかで、人間の在り様はひとつのモードに過ぎません。 美や幸福の基準は、美や幸福自身によって生産され、学問は学問の自己言及的な基礎に閉じ込められます。 ... 可能人類学は一貫性を求めるこれまでの学とは異なり、整合性のない多世界を目論む構成的学問です。

This is from a lecture description and the title of the lecture is "可能人類学のすすめ"

I do not think there is a widely used term for this because this is a thought experiment on "what would have happened if X had become a part of our culture" or "what if we perceived X differently," on the same level as theories about time machines being used to create time paradoxes. History knows no "ifs."
