Portabilitatea reprezinta, pe scurt, posibilitatea unui abonat al unui furnizor de comunicatii electronice de a-si pastra numarul de telefon, indiferent de operatorul pentru care opteaza. Mai simplu, incepand cu aceasta toamna, un abonat cu numar de Orange va putea fi client Vodafone si invers. Vor putea fi portate si numerele de pre-pay, precum si numerele geografice, insa numai in limita aceleiasi arii geografice (un abonat din Mures nu va putea avea telefon cu prefix de Tulcea, spre exemplu).
