Italian term or phrase: ritensionamento
Another word I can't find in specialist dictionaries or bilingual websites.

This is about investigating subsidence in a building and effecting repairs.
E.g. "movimento causato dagli interventi di rinforzo e ritensionamento della colonna, eseguiti due anni fa.

The original defects include "detensionamento" of the column infill consisting of rubble in a lime mortar matrix and I found this translated as "loosening" which makes sense. So I'm assuming that "ritensionamento" is reconsolidation, but "consolidamento" is used often in the text so I would welcome any confirmation or alternative evidence.

Explanation:
Hi Russell,
just a try hence my low grade.
It seems the antonym of loosening is stiffening by googling the term
so, I found the following:

Sorry typo pls read: stiffening it up (not steffening)

and one may also consider ** stiffening up again the column** - If the verb sounds correct to you, it's just a question, as you know better than me, of phrase structuring, rendering .....

Modern structural reinforcement methods were applied as follows: Carbon Fibre Reinforcement (CFK louvres and C-Sheets) was used to strengthen of columns, beams, structural walls and truss members in reinforced concrete; round reinforced concrete supports underwent hooped strengthening with C-Sheets; the bearing capacity of rectangular columns was increased by slotting in CFK louvres and trussed framework nodes were hand-laminated.

Thank you Grace. I decided to use your "stiffening" rather than post-tensioning (which is clearly "post-tensionamento"), because it is more of a catch-all term (and particularly relevant for walls and columns).
