Italian term or phrase: prevenzione
This term actually comes from a translation I have already handed in - I am just curious as to how you all would translate this term. It comes from a document describing all the different activities this theatre company does. Here, in my opinion, the word "prevenzione" means that the very act of involving its students in the art of theatre, and everything that results from it, prevents problems that otherwise might arise. For example, if teenagers get involved in drama, as a result they make new friends, and will probably have less time and inclination to indulge in negative behaviours.

Or am I reading too much into this?

"La compagnia investe assiduo impegno nel settore della didattica teatrale quale strumento essenziale di diffusione della cultura ma anche di educazione,*** prevenzione*** e sensibilizzazione. Oggi più di 1000 allievi tra bambini, ragazzi ed adulti frequentano i laboratori organizzati e condotti dagli attori della compagnia."

social orientation / guidance
Explanation:
I think your idea is accurate, but I don't think the single word "prevention" in English would carry the extent of the meaning. Therefore I would take a slight licence and use something on the lines of (using verb forms):

" ...but also to provide them with education, social orientation (or guidance), and mindfulness."

Or even in a verb-form style:

"... but also to educate, socially orientate and make aware the participants."

I think in English this would imply that life's vices would then be prevented.

"...While the community benefits from the fresh impulses released by the volunteers who bring with them their individual abilities according to education and personal circumstances, the young people find meaningful employment and/or the opportunity to SOCIALLY ORIENTATE themselves. "

preventative purposes (see below)

Explanation:
to translate this part I would rephrase:

quale strumento essenziale di diffusione della cultura ma anche di educazione,*** prevenzione*** e sensibilizzazione

like this-

as an essential tool for educational, preventative and social purposes as well as cultural ones.

or

as a key tool for educational, preventative and social awareness purposes as well as for promoting culture.

What is drama therapy?

Drama therapy is the use of drama and theatre techniques and concepts for therapeutic, preventive, and educational purposes. The approach is based upon the healing potential inherent in drama, theatre, play, stories, and the creative arts.
