Italian term or phrase: testa del cane
I am translating an essay on the 19th century firearms industry which is non technical for the most part but contains a list of the following tasks with no further context:

Aggiustare la testa del cane al luminello ed ultimarlo.

I have found this term in period Italian texts but cannot find anything explaining what it is.

Any help much appreciated.

head of the hammer / hammer head
Explanation:
"cane" = "hammer". It needs to be aligned with the luminello (the part it strikes on the gun). I do translations for a firearms manufacturer so I have "cane" in my termbase....
