  -> Thank you Phil! But why not? The Carabiniere didn't write his own memoirs, he was giving an official statement as an account of his activities for official record keeping. In fact "account", while correct, in this context would result rather limiting.

agree  philgoddard: Not procès-verbal -- that's French. And as the word is used several times, I'd vary the translation, so report and dossier are other possibilities.
