Hi everyone.

This is a part of a laser cutting machine. Context:
- Quando il tubo raggiunge le chiocciole, esso è pronto per il carico tramite i manipolatori. Una volta che i mandrini hanno bloccato il tubo, i manipolatori svolgono la funzione di supporto tramite delle chiocciole durante la lavorazione del profilo.

- When the tube reaches the ???, it is ready for loading by the manipulators. Once the spindles have locked the tube, the manipulators perform the support function by means of ??? during profile machining.

I've thought about "cradle" or "chuck" -- I mean, obviously some sort of support/locking mechanism -- but how would you ProZ call this thing? :-)

Explanation:
Just some suggestion: looking at the diagram I cannot understand if they work as a vice or they are supposed to grind or cut into the profile. However, I do not think there is a standard name for either.
Crielesi has "lathe nut" for "chiocciola del tornio", which i do not see as relevant.
And of course chiocciola is also a die (for tap and die) as you can see here: www.scatisrl.it/portfolio-view/viti-e-chiocciole-trapezie/ - also not really relevant.

I got an update from the client: This device takes the name from the shape of the Snail shell.
This shape allows it to close like clamps from a small diameter to a big one, with only a correct rotation of two “CHIOCCIOLE”.

But your insight to call it "spiral xxx" was very useful and I came up with the hybrid solution "spiral clamp" which I think renders the idea well.
