I haven't the vaguest idea what "sm" stands for in this sentence:

I dati bibliografici indicano valori di portata specifica compresi tra 0,2 e 0,5 l/sm, tipici di un acquifero poco permeabile, soprattutto per porosità interstiziale e subordinatamente per fratturazione.

Explanation:
In Italian, litri al secondo al metro; in this case linear metre (of drawdown), not square or cubic metre. It's the metric equivalent of the imperial unit gallons per minute per foot.

Litres per square metre is commonly used for rainfull, but may also apply to water filtration through an acquifer. Your Italian author may simply be using "sm" as a recognised shorthand for "square metre" even in Italian.
