Officer sounds more clerical, less like the IT aide. As if, the person that issues and validates the printouts.

In US, an "original" marriage certificate is often a freshly printed facsimile but certified by the clerk as being government issued. Inscription would be "Clerk."

neutral  Angelo Berbotto: I think it probably refers to the occupation of the groom -- What a strange comment, Phil Goddard. If it was the bride's profession, wouldn't it be "funzionaria"?

  -> Thankfully US clerks have very few personal gendered nouns to worry about, of which we've recently gotten rid of actress, waitress, and bride (and groom). Close behind on their way out are "he" and "she," in favor of "they."
