Italian term or phrase: per immaginare il (possibile) percorso espressivo nel
....il viso si fa specchio del mondo, con la sua ininterrotta variabilità. Mi sono sempre chiesto, da quando ho visto le sue prime opere, cosa mai avrebbe fatto Clelia, dopo la sua ricerca sui visi, per immaginare il (possibile) percorso espressivo nel cammino di un’Autrice che si è offerta con autorevolezza, fin dalle prime immagini.

I can't follow from here onward, so even just some help with this phrase could help. The artist tends to focus on faces and gazes.

trying to imagine what artistic/expressive direction...see below
Explanation:
This is not a word for word translation but the author is saying something like:

I've always asked myself what artistic direction she would have taken after having imposed herself with such authority right from the start.

You can work around it maybe shortening the main statement.

The speaker is looking back to when he first saw the artist's work and recalling how he didn't know at that time how the artist's work would have evolved, he didn't know what to expect from her later on in her career.

Yes she went down an artistic route but the speaker was speculating as to WHICH kind of artist route...abstract painting, expressionism etc.

I guess it's
Would have + past participle for expressing speculation in the past

Notes to answerer
Asker: But I don't know why he says "WOULD have taken" when she did go down an artistic route.

Asker: I wasn't disputing your use of "would", I am just asking why it is being used here, e.g. if it is conditional etc

Asker: "Would have evolved" and then "IF"something did or didn't happen...?

Asker: I did this: (see discussion box) "....I often asked myself which expressive route, on the journey of such a self-assured artist, her work would eventually take."
