Mi sono sempre chiesto, da quando ho visto le sue prime opere, cosa mai avrebbe fatto Clelia, dopo la sua ricerca sui visi, per immaginare il (possibile) percorso espressivo nel cammino di un’Autrice che si è offerta con autorevolezza, fin dalle prime immagini.

Yes she went down an artistic route but the speaker was speculating as to WHICH kind of artist route...abstract painting, expressionism etc.

Asker: But I don't know why he says "WOULD have taken" when she did go down an artistic route.

Asker: I wasn't disputing your use of "would", I am just asking why it is being used here, e.g. if it is conditional etc

Asker: "Would have evolved" and then "IF"something did or didn't happen...?
