Italian term or phrase: anfora segata e capovolta
Hi all,

I'm translating an article on funeral rites and grave goods.

I'm really not sure if there's a technical term for this or how best to translate it. TIA for any help.

English translation:sawn and upturned amphora
Explanation:
A few hits for "sawn amphora", but not many and all translated from the Italian, with a few noticeable errors, hence the low confidence.

... sawn amphora in Paderno, not far from the Giavera stream, in 1995, when works began to build a new industrial estate.

In anfora segata/ in sawn amphora

I also see the term "truncated amphora" used, but I'm not sure if it's the same thing.

Yes, I found sawn amphora as well but they were all translations from the Italian. It'll have to do though, as I haven't been able to find anything better. Thanks a lot for suggesting it Fiona.

Reference: Sepolture a incinerazione

Reference information:

In terra/ contained within a pit in the ground
In cista calcarea/ in limestone chest
**In anfora segata/ in sawn amphora**
In urna vitrea/ in glass urn
Incinerazione diretta (lat. bustam)/ cremation buried in situ
In urna/ in pottery urn
In cassetta di laterizi/in brick chest
Alla cappuccina/in a triangular structure of tiles so called “capuchine style”
