Italian to English translations [PRO]
Aerospace / Aviation / Space
Italian term or phrase: elicotteristica
Falls under the category of 'Aeronautica sportiva' in a 'Lista di attiva' sportive praticate in Italia'.

What would this be in English? The only thing I can come up with it 'rotor aviation' but don't even know if this term exists!

sport helicopter

Explanation:
To be clear it's not commerical or military - I'd go with the adjective 'sport'...'hobby' sounds like model planes, and I doubt that's what's in consideration here.

I prefer 'helicopter' compared to the gerhund 'helicoptering' just for the sound.

I avoided 'heli-sport' because this usually means getting to a sport activity - mountain skiing, hunting - and is also a name of a specific helicopter.

neutral  Jennifer Levey: You are reading far too much into the ST. There is no mention of 'sport' in the single word 'elicotteristica', even if the term appears in a list of 'Aeronautica sportiva'.

Today, many pilots consider sport rotorcraft to be an important part of their aviation experience. "If I'm only flying airplanes," they figure, "I'm missing the other half of aviation!"

What's good about rotorcraft?

What is it about rotorcraft that fascinates people? Among sport aircraft, there's one main appeal: This is a unique flying experience. Being airborne on spinning rotor blades is different. Since those blades are always moving, the rotorcraft can stay in the air at any speed. Stalls, as in an airplane, are unknown among rotorcraft.

Explanation:
Rotor aviation sounds good, but if you want something less "formal" here's an alternative.
