Bovo: piccolo veliero simile alla bombarda, armato con sole vele latine (Zingarelli)


Bombardeerschip. Ook: bombarde. Breed schip met versterkte, zware dekbalken, waarbij de voormast plaats heeft moeten maken voor zwaar mortiergeschut. De mortieren die zij afschoten wogen zo'n 200 pond en de terugstoot was enorm. Werd meestal gebruikt ter verdediging van havenmonden.
