The word "settlement" has always sounded a little historical and dated to me. Can you guys think of anything better?

Here's the sentence:

Az adott esetben: Out of all (vagy these) the communities 298 are classifed as cities, the rest of them towns. Ez amerikai hallgatóság részére. Európának village kell a town helyett.

Tudom, hogy a city kifejezéstől magyarjaink olykor viszolyognak, mint pl. Attila is megjegyezte, de ez csak magyar gondolkodásunk miatt van. De amerikai gondolkodással ez teljesen elfogadható. Miért? Mert Bácsalmás városnak 7190 lakosa van. Ha összevetjük ezt a New Jersey állambeli Abseconnal, amelynek 7500 lakosa van és amelynek hivatalos neve City of Absecon, akkor nyugodt lelkiismerettel fordíthatjuk a várost citynek és a községet townnak. agree  Attila Piróth: A community jó, de a mondat fordításában egy Bácsalmás méretű városra nekem nagyon furcsán hangzana a "city".

neutral  juvera: Csak megjegyzés: UK angolban, ahonnan ezek a szavak származnak, a city és a town között egy lényeges különbség van: a city olyan helység, ahol katedrális van, vagy hivatalosan elnyerte a city rangot. Semmi köze a méretéhez, vagy a "village"-hez.
