discount corner, discount aisle Explanation: If you said "discount island" in the right context, I would probably understand. But this is not a term that I've heard before. If you're talking about an entire aisle of discounted goods, than I would say "discount aisle." If you're merely talking about a small section of an aisle (or a smaller area in general) than I would use the term "discount corner." -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2008-04-07 19:43:34 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- If that's the case, than I like the term "discount island," since it's in fact a display of goods that is kind of isolated and "floating" in the aisle. I think this literal translation may be your best bet. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 hr (2008-04-07 19:58:08 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- another option that just came to mind: "discount stand" -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 2 hrs (2008-04-07 21:00:43 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- So I think this is the term you're looking for: "discount rack." It may not conjure up the idea of an isolated display in the middle of the aisle, but it's your best and most used term for the type of discounted display of goods that you're talking about. -------------------------------------------------- Note added at 1 day15 hrs (2008-04-09 10:03:14 GMT) -------------------------------------------------- I can definitely picture what you're describing. However, a perfect term for this type of display of goods escapes me. Technically, it's neither a "rack" nor a "bin," because it's just a pile of goods on a pallet that are on sale. I saw that someone suggested "promotional display." This term doesn't capture the fact that the goods are on sale, but you could say "discounted promotional display." Otherwise, I'd just say "discount bin" or "discount rack," even though it's technically neither a bin nor a rack. Hope this helps. |
