In response to the comment how archaic this expression is, here are a few links showing it is still being used in English as well:

http://www.answers.com/topic/cloven-hoof-album - this album was released in 1984 by the British heavy metal band “Cloven Hoof”, so I suppose they would not choose a band name English speakers would not understand

To show the cloven foot, i.e. to show a knavish intention, a base motive. The allusion is to Satan, represented with the legs and feet of a goat; and, however he might disguise himself, he could never conceal his cloven feet. (See Bag O'Nails, Goat.)
“Real grief little influenced its composition and the cloven foot peeps out in some letters written by him at the period.” —St. James's Magazine

to reveal a devilish character, or betray an evil purpose, notwithstanding disguises - Satan being represented dramatically and symbolically as having cloven hoofs.

Thank you everyone. This was a challenging term in a challenging context. Still interesting, because the Hungarian term is widely used today, however its meaning is not always the same - there is room for interpretation. In the given context the term stands for the symbolic representation of failed deception, not just simple lying. And this is the strongest message. From the recommended answers I find this one to be closest to a usable term, but it is still weaker than the Hungarian, because the emphasizer part (szőrös) is missing.

everyone can see that (hairy) elephant in the room

Explanation:
Először a "stick/stand out a mile" vagy a "stick/stand out like a sore thumb" ötlött fel nekem, de sajnos nincs konkrétumunk, csak utalás arra, hogy a politikájukat valójában a nyíltan hirdetettel ellentétes, mögöttes indíttatások motiválják, és ezt a valódi, bár be nem vallott politikát már mindenki jól látja. Így arra gondolok, talán az elefántos hasonlattal lehetne élni: "the elephant in the room". A második említésnél pedig: "Yes, that hairy elephant is so huge that we should nominate you, Mr. President Obama, for the Hypocrisy Prize". (Az elefánt is szőrös, akárcsak a lóláb. :)
Angol értelmezése: "The elephant in the room: An important and obvious topic, which everyone present is aware of, but which isn't discussed, as such discussion is considered to be uncomfortable."

To reveal a secret: to let the cat out of the bag. A sercet discovered: the cat is out of the bag / that furry cat is out of the bag. :)

Személyes preferencia kérdése, melyiket gondolod a szöveg hangulatához jobban alkalmazhatónak, de talán segítettem kicsit.

-> I think this elephant IS, indeed, seen. In my interpretation, the whole point is that the real agenda is so obvious by now they can't even deny it (thus he should just trade in that peace prize for a hypocrisy prize)

agree Rajkumar Sinha: Erről van szó. // Hogy denny-nek is igaza legyen, én a kontextusba így építeném be: Now there is no denying the elephant in the room whatsoever: v. Finally, the elephant in the room has been laid bare (és ez utóbbival talán a "szőrőst" is elintézük)

red herring, catch someone red handed

Explanation:
(idiomatic) A clue that is misleading or that has been falsified, intended to divert attention.
http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/red_herring

A második előfordulásnál, ahol a szöveg vádló stílusra fordul, talán használható a "catch someone red handed", vagyis, hogy "rajtakapták".
"To catch someone red-handed is to discover him or her in the process of committing a naughty or forbidden act."

Hairy at the heel: (UK) Someone who is hairy at the heel is dangerous or untrustworthy.
http://www.english-for-students.com/Idioms-H.html

Még egy eszembe jutott:
"wolf in sheep's clothing", ez is a második előfordulásra, amikor a képmutatásról beszél.

Peer comments on this answer (and responses from the answerer)
