Regarding Hamare - us /me 02:52 May 23, 2009
Yes, Nke Sahab has raised the correct issue of using Hamare - us /me in Indian poetry--but poetry is a different genre in contrast to prose. In the given expression, we have a straight forward expression in prose. And question is also of syntax. And in prose, "Hamare - me", won't be syntactically correct; and whenever it is used by some speaker, the connotation is of a latent egotism of the speaker, in my view. C.M. Rawal Sahab is also correct in saying हमारे पिताजी (my father), हमारे पति (my husband) are highly cultured expressions. But here the question is of first person, second person and third person singulars. When used for second person singular and third person singular, the expression carries esteem, but when used for first person singular, the connotation is negative.
