I understand that this term refers to the Germans, because the text tells me that, but I would like to write it in English letters, and I have no idea if this is Polish or Ukrainian or something else and what it really means, if it is slang or a legitimate word, etc.

Thanks in advance to anyone who might recognize this term.

Notes to answerer
Asker: Thanks. This is very helpful. I will write it as "the Shvabs," because the Wikipeida article you cited mentions "Shvab" as the Polish derogatory term for Germans.

Reference information:
האוסטרים כינו את התיקנים
Preussen או פרוסים Schwaben (שוואבים)
The Austrians never liked the Prussians or the Swabians.
Just like Fritz or Huns.

In Hungary:

"Sváb" pron. "Shvab" = German (not that bad but use it with care, can turn to pretty derogative). Use with extreme care.
